About us
We're a small group of home improvement enthusiasts who care about DIY, energy efficiency, and finding the right tool for the job. When we shopped for our own heat pumps, we collected certified data to compare them, and built tools to do it. This site makes those tools available to every homeowner. No manufacturer pays to appear here, and every figure is shown as certified, with the method in full on the methodology page.
Coverage and tools
Our coverage includes 8,420 modern air-source heat pumps that have earned the ENERGY STAR designation, with the heat the unit is certified to deliver at 5, 17, and 47°F, its cooling at 95°F, its SEER2, EER2 and HSPF2 ratings, and every certified indoor pairing.
A quote names an outdoor unit and an indoor unit, and the certified figures belong to that pair. The quote check finds the exact pair on your quote. The size calculator estimates the size your home needs from its ZIP or postal code. The lists rank units by size, type and cold-climate performance.
Homeowners comparing quotes, installers checking a pairing, and program staff checking a claim all see the same certified figures. Every page shows the date its figures last changed.
