The data behind every page

What the certified data holds, what it leaves out, and what each field means.

  • 8,420 units
  • Updated Oct 26, 2026

The data

One row per certified combination of an outdoor unit with a named indoor unit: the heating capacity at 5, 17, and 47°F, the COP at 5°F, the cooling capacity, the efficiency figures, EPA's cold-climate designation, and the AHRI certificate number. This site groups those rows by outdoor unit, so 8,420 units get one page each.

Every page carries the date its figures last changed, and the certified data is checked daily.

Field definitions

The fields that carry a methodological claim. The rest is the certified data's own, as published.

Fields that carry a definition
Field What it is
cap_47 Heating capacity at 47°F, Btu/h. The H1 test family for single-stage equipment, H1 at high stage for two-stage equipment, and H1N at nominal speed for variable-speed equipment.
cap_17 Heating capacity at 17°F, Btu/h. The DOE H3 full-speed test, run at the speed the manufacturer sets for that test.
cap_5 Heating capacity at 5°F, Btu/h. The DOE H4 full-speed test, run at the speed the manufacturer sets for that test.
cop_5 Coefficient of performance at 5°F, from the same H4 full-speed test.
share_5_of_47 cap_5 ÷ cap_47, as a ratio. The numerator and the denominator come from two tests at different compressor speeds.
share_17_of_47 cap_17 ÷ cap_47, as a ratio, with the same speed difference between the two.
cold_climate EPA's cold-climate designation, as published. It is granted against a separately measured controls-verification value, so it does not always agree with the arithmetic of the published cap_5 and cap_47. This site reports the designation and never recomputes it.
compressor_staging Single stage, two-stage, or continuously variable, as the certified data states it. It decides whether the three capacities are three points on one curve: a single-stage unit has one speed, so they are.
hspf2 Heating Seasonal Performance Factor 2, Region IV.
ahri_reference_number The AHRI certificate that carries the row. It is a join key and a deep link, not a unique row key: one reference can cover several outdoor model spellings.
energy_star_id EPA's own row identifier, and the key one certified combination is stored under here.

The share is heat output at 5°F divided by the 47°F rating. Tests use different compressor speeds.

Percentages are rounded for display, and a share below 100% never prints as 100%: 76.5 prints as 77% and 99.6 prints as 99%. Tables give a share of counted units or pairings to one decimal. Methodology.

Not in the certified data

  • Electrical data: voltage, amp draw, minimum circuit size, and breaker rating.
  • Zones and rooms: how many indoor heads an outdoor unit runs, and the area it serves.
  • Price of the equipment or the installation.
  • Manufacture date. The certification date is the date the record was certified.
  • Performance below 5°F.
  • Manufacturer or factory.
  • Warranty, dealer network, parts, and support.
  • Performance in a house. Every figure is a laboratory test under one procedure.
